Pop Poetry: Feminist Findings
Esteem
I am beautiful no matter what they say,
“Hey me and you should hit the hay.” I asked her out she said, “no way!” I shoulda probably guessed her gay. Wait a second, Why, should you care, what they think of you When you’re all alone, by yourself, do you like you? Do you like you? She say “I never wanna make you mad I just want to make you proud.” I say “baby, just make me cum, Then don’t make a sound.” Wish I knew back then, What I know now, Wish I could somehow, Go back in time and maybe listen to own advice: Dancing sexy, pop, pop, popping, dropping low ‘Cause I got that boom boom that all the boys chase Honey looking wonderful; so fly, so fly Honey looking like a supermodel; my oh my Baby how you do that, make a grown man cry? I wouldn’t want to be anybody else, yeah You made me insecure, told me I wasn’t good enough, But who are you to judge, When you are a diamond in the rough These hoes got pussies like craters Can’t treat these hoes like ladies, man… Put your make-up on Get your nails done Curl your hair Run the extra mile Keep it slim so they like you, do they like you? Fathers be good to your daughters Daughters will love like you do Girls become lovers who turn into mothers I’m bringing booty back Go ahead and tell them skinny bitches Hey I hate these blurred lines! Songs used in order of first appearance: “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera, “Girls” by The Beastie Boys, “Try” by Colbie Caliat, “Love Me” by Lil’ Wayne ft. Little Girl
Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul.
I know that I’m a mess with my long hair and my suntan, short dress, bare feet, I don’t care. Hold my hand, hold my hand ‘cause I can’t touch the ground. How old are you? Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. I'm your Lolita, la femme Nikita, when we're together you'll love me forever, you're my possession, I'm your obsession... Could be kissin’ my fruit punch lips in the bright sunshine. I’m older than you’ll ever be. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita. Oh, Romeo, kiss me in the d-a-r-k dark tonight, I won't tell if you won't and I will if you want, nothing is secret, don't care if it's wrong You've made me what I am today, a bundle of broken nerves, a mouthful of words, I'm still afraid to say. We loved each other with a premature love, marked by a fierceness that so often destroys adult lives. Nothing is secret, I don’t care if it’s wrong, I know what the boys want, I’m not gonna play, The addiction, the friction, it burns you alive, so illegal, no evil is seen with these eyes. All at once we were madly, clumsily, shamelessly, agonizingly in love with each other; hopelessly, I should add, because that frenzy of mutual possession might have been assuaged only by our actually imbibing and assimilating every particle of each other's soul and flesh. Just you and me feelin' the heat even when the sun goes down, I am your sugar, I am your cream, I'm lost in the woods and you're baring your teeth. I knew I had fallen in love with Lolita forever; but I also knew she would not be forever Lolita. Don’t tell me never, you’ll love me forever I perfectly understand, so it’s my fault No more skippin’ rope, skippin’ heartbeats with the boys downtown. Wanted, wanted: Dolores Haze. Hair: brown. Lips: scarlet. Age: five thousand three hundred days. Profession: none, or starlet. I want my cake and I wanna eat it too, I wanna have fun and be in love with you And I promise I will keep our secret. Call off the search, we’ve found her. Media used in order of first appearance: Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, “Lolita” by Lana Del Ray, “Lolita” by The Veronicas, “Gothic Lolita” by Emile Autumn |
Girl Power: Women's Issue
Who run the world?
They say women shouldn't be the president cause we crazy from time to time Who run the world? Girls For every dollar a man makes a woman makes 63 cents. Now, fifty years ago that was 62 cents. So, with that kind of luck, it'll be the year 3,888 before we make a buck Who run the world? Girls Just wanna have fun We are under attack What is the body count - I've lost track Who run the world? Girls Just wanna have fun I'm so very fly, oh my, it's a lil' bit scary Thank God I’m pretty The occasional free drink I never asked for My voice is my weapon of choice Who run the world? Oh daddy dear you know you're still number one But girls they want to have fun Do the pretty girl rock I'm blessed, I'm truly privileged to look this good without clothes on Just a body to be beaten, fucked and If I'm lucky left for dead Girls, we run this mother That's all they really want Some fun When the working day is done Don’t hate me ‘cause I’m beautiful Don’t hate me ‘cause I’m beautiful I think my ego would fall right through the cracks in the floor If I couldn't count on men to slap my ass anymore There is no such thing as justice All the best that we can hope for is revenge Girls, we run this mother Girls Just wanna have fun Mad cause I'm cuter than the girl that's with ya I could just go on and on and on... but tonight I've got a headache Who run the world?
