All That Glitters
She had never
really known love.
Smiling was a front that didn’t really suit her. All she wanted was a hand to hold, a story to tell. He had eyes that glittered in the night. Time was short, none to waste. His heart was hers to wear. They were always heading somewhere. Freedom was a feeling she learned to love. His hands grew familiar around her waist, but diamonds would never be her suit. Too fast, too soon, his eyes now glittered wet with tears. Words were withheld. She wanted to stop time; pause and hold fast to what they had. But vicious war ensued. He saw no future, the glitter shone no more. They were jaded lovers living a lie. All was bitter that once was sweet, his heart in her hands was dead weight. She couldn’t find the tears. Her emotions wasted away until they were numb, her heart a hole. Her skin became thick, such an unfamiliar suit. She thought of him from time to time; a whore for reminiscing. He was the true love she could never forget. No other would glitter. He found himself in a deep gutter, deceived he settled for scum and waste. He had no faith, no trust. She had made love a sick joke; ruined all that he had found holy. But even now he would go anywhere to see her again. Pride was bittersweet. Nervous, anticipation made her palms sweat. Fires ignited, hearts raced; timeless glitter peaked through the dust. They each wore the years differently; maturity worth the wait. She was ready for his arms to hold her now. All he needed was her love. No longer would she wear an armour suit. Her love would be his faith, forever glistening he kept her weighted. Together they were whole. |
